Snow Shovel Races | Anniversary Celebration

Snow shovel races have been taking place in Brian Head since the early 1970’s and have been a fun source of entertainment and laughter. This event is meant for the brave at heart with riding a snow shovel down a course which is judged with the best time. There will be two classes available: Snow Scoop Class: anyone between the ages of 5 to 12 years old, and an adult class for both men and women 13+ years old.

DATE: Friday, March 14, 2025 TIME: 1:00PM to 3PM (MST). LOCATION: Brian Head Resort’s Navajo Lodge Ski Base, 365 North Highway 143, Brian Head, UT 84719 REGISTRATION: Registration is free, but contestants will need to register for this event by completing a registration form. For participants under the age of 17 years old, a parent or guardian is required to sign.

RULES: 1. Each contestant will get two timed runs. 2. Contestants are required to wear a helmet and have eye protection for any practice or runs. 3. Contestants can sit or lay on a shovel, push off from the starting line, and stay on the shovel while sliding down the hill to the finish line. 4. Contestants must be sitting on their shovels when crossing the finish line; anyone not sitting will receive a did not finish (DNF) for that run. 5. Contestants coming off shovels during a time trial or Little Scoops run will receive a DNF and will be required to move laterally off the course. 6. Modified shovels are prohibited and will not be allowed to enter the race. All snow shovels must be a grain scoop snow shovel with the exception of a padded seat area. EQUIPMENT: Participants can bring their own snow shovel. There will be a couple of snow shovels available to the public. CLOTHING: Dress properly as you would if you were skiing/snowboarding for the day. WINNERS: Winners of the event will be announced after the races have concluded and the times have been recorded. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place for the Snow Scoop and Adult classes.
